The road to Invesco, part 1: Arrival
At 5 p.m. at the Mineral light-rail station in extreme southwest Denver, a adult female spies a press pass for Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field.
"Do you have an extra ticket?" she asks. "I pulled every string I know trying to get my husband in."
He is bound to be out of luck.
The boodle along the rail business are patrolled by a hodge-podge of law enforcement: Federal Air Marshals, Homeland Security explosives specialists, private Wackenhut security department guards in ill-fitting tan polyester uniforms.
Word is the Invesco Field train stop was closed because of vast crowds surging about the tracks. Not that it mattered: Lines for the stadium security checkpoints extended all the way back to the previous station a half international mile away.
But by the time we arrive, the Invesco stop has reopened. And lo and behold, the two-hour wait that bogged down earlier arrivals -- officials successfully convinced plenty of folks to arrive former -- is gone.
Just as those who risked waiting until the last minute to evacuate earlier Hurricane Katrina found open roads instead of traffic jams, those of us who arrived outside Invesco at 6 p.m. breezed through security.
Under an Interstate 25 approach ramp near the first checkpoint, the hopeful solicited eleventh hour tickets "There's a estimable chance I'll love you forever if you give me a ticket!" yelled a daughter of 12 with a hand-drawn sign.
"Obama said everyone could come, so here I am," said another young womanhood in an Obama shirt who, thus far, remained ticketless.
After one woman declined to buy a scalped ticket for $400, some other passers-by handed her unmatched for free.
.
This path to the arena passes under Interstate 25, which is closed to traffic and staffed by police. Signs, even Obama signs, are confiscated ahead we reach out the metallic element detectors at the stadium itself.
Inside Invesco Field, the merch tables are doing a big business sector. People are excited. This feels like the concert everyone wants to attend.

Lohan, Murphy top the Razzie nominees
Celebrating Hollywood's worst in Film, the Razzie nominees were announced ahead of the Oscar nominees.
Lindsay Lohan's thriller, 'I know Who Killed Me', in which she plays two characters who may or may not be the same person, received nine Razzie nominations, amongst them Worst Picture of 2007.
For her Worst Actress nomination, Lohan polled more heavily than any star since Sofia Coppola in 'The Godfather Part III,' according to Razzie founder, John Wilson.
2007 may have been the year Eddie Murphy won an Academy Award nomination for his role in 'Dreamgirls', but that didn't prevent his film 'Norbit' from receiving eight nominations.
Besides a nod for Worst Picture, five of those went to Murphy alone, more than any one person has ever received in a single year.
"We decided that each of his characters was so offensive that he deserved individual nominations," said John Wilson.
Adam Sandler ('I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry') and Cuba Gooding Jr ('Daddy Day Camp', 'Norbit') joined Murphy in the Worst Actor category, along with Nicolas Cage ('Ghost Rider')and Jim Carrey ('The Number 23').
The 'winners' of the 28th Razzies will be announced on 23 February, a day before the Oscars.

Sean Penn reunites with estranged wife
Sean Penn and estranged wife Robin Wright Penn are reportedly back together.
The Oscar-winning actor and the Forrest Gump actress - who announced their separation last year - attended a party in Cannes, France, on Saturday night, which was hosted by model Petra Nemcova, who dated Sean after he initially split from Robin.
An onlooker at the party on Nikki Beach said: "Surprisingly, there didn't appear to be any tension and they all sat and comfortably chatted.”
At one point during the evening, Sean left Robin to go and chat to Petra – who was hosting the bash to showcase her new documentary about the meaning of love - while Robin spoke to U2 frontman Bono.
The source added: "Petra and Sean had a pretty long conversation, while Robin chatted with Bono. Once Petra made her announcement about the documentary, Sean and Robin were back together."
Sean and Robin called off their divorce in April, after applying to a San Francisco judge to stop the divorce proceedings during a hearing.
In a one-page document filed in Marin County Superior Court, the clerk dismissed the couple's petition at their request.
Robin, 43, filed for divorce on December 21 citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple met on the set of the 1990 thriller State of Grace and married in 1996.
They have two teenage children, daughter Dylan Frances and son Hopper Jack.

Naomi Campbell recovering following operation
Last week, she underwent four-and-a-half hours of surgery at a hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to remove a cyst.
The hospital said over the weekend that Campbell had recovered "very well" and left in a helicopter after being discharged on Friday afternoon.
Mirtes Bogea, spokeswoman for the Sirio Libanes hospital, said: "Doctors signed her release and she left in the afternoon in a helicopter that someone sent to pick her up."
Meanwhile Campbell hit out at "ludicrous" reports she was planning a party.
The Brazilian press reported that the 37-year-old planned to throw a lavish party on the day she left hospital.
But the model said in a statement: "I take my health very seriously, so to suggest that I would host a party following an operation is ludicrous.
"I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and concern over the past week and for the fantastic service I have received at the hospital. I will now be recuperating in private."
The Streatham-born model underwent a four-and-a-half hour laparoscopy procedure on Monday.
A friend said: "The suggestion that she would throw a party as soon as she leaves is ridiculous and makes light of what she has been through over the last few days."

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists began independent negotiations
with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers Wednesday, after rejecting
a new plea by the Screen Actors Guild to hold joint talks. In a message to AFTRA membe
rs -- a majority of whom belong to both unions -- AFTRA President Roberta Reardon
said that over the past 15 months "our once-positive relationship with SAG deteriorated,
making it impossible now to continue joint bargaining." In response to trade and Int

said, "Make no mistake; we anticipate challenging negotiations as we work to secure
greater job opportunities and improved wages and working conditions."

Lily Allen - Lily Allen Responds To Cannes Reports On Blog
Lily Allen has responded angrily to tabloid rumours that she had indulged in over-the-top partying while at the Cannes film festival.
The Smile star had been photographed swimming topless and some commentators had claimed she had been removed from a festival attendee's yacht for bad behaviour.
However, in a new blog on the MySpace page which shot her to fame in 2005, Allen has hit back at claims she was out of control while in the south of France.
"I don't really like to respond to things I read about myself in the press," she said, "but, for the record I was not thrown off anybody's yacht in Cannes, occasionally I drink wine with lunch and yes I swim topless.
"This in my book is not embarrassing behaviour - I'm 23 years old."
Reports had also suggested the singer was attempting to rekindle her relationship with Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons, with whom she split earlier this year.
The former Bedales pupil dismissed tabloid reports on her blog on Friday, stressing: "I went for lunch with my ex-boyfriend yesterday, lunch."
She continued: "I am not some failed baby-making machine desperately to trying to win my man back," making reference to the miscarriage she suffered shortly before her and Simons' split.
"No one knows anything about my relationships. Ed and I are friends, who went for lunch yesterday, that's it."
Allen added: "I work very hard at what I do, yes I like a drink and yes I have my bad days, but that doesn't mean I'm out of control. I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself thank you very much."
The young star also revealed that she is currently finishing off her second album with the help of producer Mark Ronson.

Annie Lennox axed by record label
The former Eurythmics star was reportedly stunned when Sony BMG stopped answering her phone calls just weeks before her contract was due to expire.
Lennox, 53, said she was shocked at the way she was treated by the company which once hailed her as "one of the finest musical voices of the age".
Soundgenerator.com quotes her as saying: "They totally ignored me. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn't return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I'm trying to find out what's behind it.
"Probably a good thing I'm no longer with them - mild understatement. Unless it's them trying to tell me something... Hello!"
The singer admitted she has been left contemplating her future in the music industry.
She added: "It feels like I'm spent, as if I've completely run out of energy.
"I'm going to take my time over the coming months to figure out what to do with this freedom."
